First Research Projects!!
For our first research project of 2nd grade we studied birds. Students picked a bird and found out what it ate, where it lived and what it looked like. They did a wonderful job of reading, taking notes, writing a section and editing. Below are a few finished projects!!!

If You Give A.... Book Celebration!!
We read the books If You Give a Moose a Muffin and If You Give a Cat a Cupcake by Laura Joffe Numeroff. Students then wrote and illustrated their own books about an animal and a food. Below is a slideshow of some of the hightlights :)
Native American Research Projects
Students worked in pairs and researched different Native American tribes. The gathered facts to write a report and then made a project to represent something they learned. Below are pictures of what they created.

Tagxedo
Students went on Tagxedo a website that turns words into word clouds to practice their spelling words for the week. Below are the word clouds they created, click on the picture to see who made it.
Story Jumper
Students created their own books on Story Jumper. They had a story starter about a seahorse and two fish who needed to go on an adventure and they created that adventure. To see their stories you can click on the Storyjumper link below. The students should know the username and password to login :)

Bitstrips
Students answered the prompt "What would happen if an inadement object came to life?" After finishing writing we went to Bitstrips for the first time this year to make a comic of the adventure they created. Students worked on matching their pictures and words as well as figuring out what should be the narration. If you click on "Class Gallery" below you can see all of the comics the class created.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

We read the book How I Spent My Summer Vacation By Mark Teague for inspiration about our own summer vacations. Students wrote a narrative about their summer vacation some truthful well others were very imaginative and then published them. Some titles include The Treasuer Map, The Terrifying Vacation and the Underworld.
GLURP
GLURP-9/4
We read the book Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun by Maria Dismondy about peoples difference and having the courage to be who you are. Students then made their own GLURP all about themselves. GLURP stand for something you are Good at, something you Like to do, something you could do Umpteem times, something you do to Relax and something you are Proud of. It was wonderful to see all the different answers :)
